"Dad had a fish tug with a gas engine (the SUPERIOR which burned off Pilot Harbour in 1936). Dad was always looking for more boats but that was the last of their gas boats. As the crew was stoking the coals of the wood stove the fumes from the gas engine were still there and the thing just blew up. Another tug nearby saw it all and described it. Before it sank one chap got up on top and tied together some fish boxes and threw them over. He was the only one who survived and he did it by hanging on to those fish boxes. A couple others kept pawing at the boxes/ but they drowned." - Mort Purvis
