The steamer Chicago was a steel-hulled Great Lakes package freighter launched in 1901 that operated mainly on Lakes Superior and Huron carrying mixed cargoes. On October 22, 1929, while bound from Duluth, Minnesota to Houghton, Michigan in heavy seas and gale-force winds, she was driven ashore off Michipicoten Island in Lake Superior and ultimately slid into deep water and sank, though no loss of life was reported.
